Women’s tennis defeats Hunter College in a non-conference game

FARMINGDALE, NY | The Farmingdale State women’s tennis team hosted Hunter College in non-conference play on Wednesday afternoon and earned a 5-2 victory, improving its record to 10-4 on the season.

The Rams won all three doubles matches as they led 1-0 in singles. Juniors MacKenzie Gisler (Ronkonkoma, NY) and Mikayla DeMaria (West Babylon, NY) opened with a 6-0 shutout at third doubles ahead of the senior pairing Lien Collings (Merrick, NY) and Junior Gabriella Loria (Levittown, NY) took Flight No. 2 6-2. FSC second year student Natalia Furchel (Manorville, NY) and Junior Amanda Jones (Mastic Beach, NY) finished the doubles with a hard-fought 7-5 win on top.

In singles, Loria gave the Rams a 2-0 lead with an 8-0 victory over Ava Cooper of the Hawks (5-5). Collings followed with an 8-2 win in the top game before Gisler secured the team game in fourth place with an 8-4 decision.

Hunter earned victories in games No. 3 and 6, but the Rams closed with a tiebreaker win by Furchel (8-7 (7-5)) in the second slot to give FSC the 5-2 win outside the Conference.

Next, Farmingdale State travels to Manhattanville University where they will battle for first place in the Skyline Conference on Saturday, October 26th at 12:00 p.m. The winner of the match will secure first place and home court advantage during the Skyline Conference Women’s Tennis Championship, which begins next Wednesday.
