High fire danger in Maryland

High fire danger in Maryland

BALTIMORE – Be careful of the burn over the next few days. Dry and windy conditions make for perfect fire weather!

It’s been a wonderful October so far. In fact, the last time we saw rain was on 10/22/24. At the time of writing, that’s three dry weeks. This is starting to add up, especially in the drought category.

Here’s the latest drought:

The areas highlighted in yellow are unusually dry. The brown areas suffer from moderate drought. Finally, the orange circle on the East Coast indicates a severe drought, the worst in our region.

This created a lot of fuel for any fires that could arise. Not to mention that any fallen leaves also play a role.

This could start a fire, the wind we expect on Thursday could spread it very quickly.

Here is the wind forecast for Thursday:

Bottom line: Be very careful during any outdoor Burn Thursday. Or better yet, wait until the weekend!
