Avery Weed set an NCAA record en route to victory at The Ally at Old Waverly at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss.

The Ally is the Bulldogs’ home tournament, and Weed took advantage by shooting 11-under 61 in the opening round, setting the record for the lowest round by par in NCAA history.

Even more impressive, Weed recorded 10 pars, five birdies and three eagles.

She also made her way into the Bulldogs’ history books as she posted the lowest round in Mississippi State history by two strokes and achieved the lowest NCAA round relative to par. She played the four par 5s at Old Waverly in the first round and finished at 7 under.

She joined NC State’s Lauren Olivares Leon, who shot an 11-under 60 in the opening round of the Cougar Classic, and Michigan’s Monet Chun, who shot a 10-under 61. Seven women golfers have now shot rounds of 61 or better in NCAA history.

Weed shot rounds of 61-72-74 to finish at 9 under and win by one stroke.

Sara Im of Vanderbilt took second place solo at 8-under, and Anna Davis of Auburn and Paula Francisco of Florida took third place at 6-under. Ines Archer of Florida and Madison Dabagia of Indiana finished T5 at 4-under.

In the team competition, Florida won by six shots and was 15 under with a score of 287-280-282. Host school Mississippi State single-handedly took second place at 9 under.

Vanderbilt took third place solo at 6-under, Auburn took fourth place solo at 3-over and Mercer took fifth place solo at 16-over.
