NOVI, Mich. (CBS DETROIT) – A former Huron Valley Schools substitute teacher was back in district court Wednesday for a preliminary hearing after being fired Charged with six counts of second-degree sexual conduct.

Timothy Allen Daugherty, 61, returned to court as several children, some as young as nine, took the witness stand to tell their stories. Daugherty, who is out on $75,000 bail, was present throughout the hearing. The court closed the hearing’s testimony to protect the minors’ privacy, and parents were not even allowed into the room at that time.

An investigation revealed that 10 victims experienced inappropriate interactions with Daugherty while serving as a substitute teacher at Spring Mills Elementary in Highland Township.

After testimony from three young witnesses, the judge concluded that there was enough evidence to bring Daugherty to trial, which could result in a prison sentence of fifteen years if found guilty.

Lawyers are preparing to file a civil lawsuit on behalf of at least 11 families affected by the alleged acts. Before you can officially file a report, you need a copy of the police report.

A parent of one of the victims said she was “angry” and “it made her sick” to see Daugherty in person.

“Incredible, it’s hard to imagine that one person can impact so many lives in this way and not show remorse,” one parent told CBS News Detroit after seeing Daugherty in the courtroom.

A date for the trial has not yet been set.
