Violet meets a cute stranger while visiting Chicago fire

While Violet prepared for her birthday, the entire Fire Department 51 was excited to celebrate at Molly’s. While everyone came to say some love to Violet, Carver had to leave early after angering his girlfriend for not telling her the truth about his whereabouts. Violet spent the rest of the episode stewing over the ordeal, knowing full well that it had caused problems in Carver’s relationship.

Meanwhile, Violet’s paramedic Lyla Novak (Jocelyn Hudon) assured her that it was best to stay out of Carver’s business for now. There was too much luggage. The paramedics didn’t have much time to discuss Violet’s tumultuous love life before they were called to the Chicago Riverwalk after a falafel vendor was attacked by a cyclist fleeing the scene.

The paramedics were met by a panicked but charming man who informed them of the situation after witnessing the attack. Before the paramedics arrived, he noticed that the seller’s leg was badly injured, so he tied the wound with his shirt to stop the flow of blood from the “carotid artery.” That gave Violet pause—the carotid artery is near the neck—but she understood what he meant.

“Yeah, that was a pretty smart move,” she told him.

The man helped them lift the seller onto the stretcher and walked him to the ambulance, where he assured the stranger that he would be fine. Novak praised him for his actions; The seller was lucky he was there to help before paramedics could arrive.

Once they were out of earshot, Novak whispered to Violet, “We’ll talk about how hot he was later, right?”

Violet met Flynn Calhoun and sparks flew

After another chaotic shift, Novak and Violet headed to the day they noticed the man from the Chicago Riverwalk approaching Fire Station 51. He asked the paramedics if they remembered him – he was shirtless before and was now wearing a sharp suit – when Novak quickly excused himself to give Violet the floor. After checking in on the street vendor’s condition, the heroic civilian introduced himself.

“I’m Flynn,” he told her, shaking her hand.

“Violet,” she replied.

“I just wanted to say thank you for not embarrassing me,” Flynn told her.

“Are you embarrassed?” Violet asked.

“I told everyone in my office about my big rescue and how smart I was to tie off the carotid artery-“

“Oh,” Violet said knowingly.

“They found out that the carotid artery is in your neck and not in your leg,” Flynn said ruefully. “That’s something that probably everyone in the world knows except me.”

Violet assured him that all that mattered was that he put the tourniquet in the right place, and laughed as Flynn continued. “I was just starting to think that I should be more prepared in case of another emergency,” Flynn teased. “I mean, next week someone’s going to be the hot dog vendor – I have to be ready.”

Flynn asked her if she knew of any first aid courses available, and Violet happily informed him that she teaches one.

“I can send you the link,” Violet informed him. “And you already know that I won’t embarrass you in class.”

“That’s right,” Flynn laughed.

“There’s also a great bar nearby if you might want to have a drink afterwards,” Violet suggested shyly.

“No ‘maybes,'” Flynn smiled. “Count me in.”

Violet gave Flynn her number as they both beamed from ear to ear.
