Oro Valley man admits fatally shooting his wife

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – An Oro Valley man has admitted to fatally shooting his wife more than five years ago.

On Wednesday, October 23, Trevor Stark Draegeth pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

He was charged with first-degree murder after his wife, Laurie, was found dead in the family’s Oro Valley home on February 12, 2019.

Two young children were found safe inside the home in the 200 block of East Brearley Drive. Draegeth wasn’t arrested until about a month after the shooting.

Case cover

Draegeth claimed his wife fired two shots at him and then shot herself. Her body was found face up on her bed with a gunshot wound to the head.

Draegeth said that after his wife was shot, he sat next to her body for about 10 minutes. He admitted moving evidence but claimed he did so to make his wife’s body look “pretty”. Investigators said he also tried to wash the gun, his shirt and the blanket from the bed with a bar of soap.

Authorities said Draegeth shot his wife and tried to make it look like suicide.
