Yorkville doctor pleads guilty to criminal sexual assault of minor as jury trial begins – Shaw Local

A Yorkville doctor pleaded guilty to seven counts of criminal sexual assault of a minor on Oct. 22, shortly after his jury trial began.

At his request, 73-year-old Edgar Archbold of Yorkville was immediately taken into custody. He will remain in custody until his sentencing on Jan. 3, according to a news release from Kendall County Prosecutor Eric Weis.

Weis said the plea was unexpected because the jury trial was scheduled to last two days this week. He faces a minimum sentence of 28 years in prison and must serve 85% of his sentence.

“Due to his age, even the minimum sentence for Archbold is equivalent to life in prison,” Weis said in the press release.

Archbold was charged following an investigation that began in April 2023, according to the statement.

The victim told his parents and law enforcement that Archbold had been engaging in sexual acts at both his business and his home in Yorkville for about nine months, Weis said.

In the news release, Weis said the victim was concerned about retaliation after coming forward.

Members of the Yorkville Police Department obtained a wiretap warrant and, during a recorded phone call, Archbold admitted that in many cases sexual penetration occurred with the victim, Weis said.

Weis praised the work of the Yorkville Police Department and the Kendall County Child Advocacy Center in investigating this case. He also paid tribute to the victim’s determination and courage.
