More record-breaking highs with ongoing burn bans across Oklahoma

More record-breaking highs with ongoing burn bans across Oklahoma

What is the forecast for today?

A weak front arrived in northern Oklahoma early this morning and will gradually move southward throughout the day.

Tonight as the front approaches or stalls south of I-40, there is a chance of isolated showers in these areas, but the chance remains extremely low. The front is expected to either dissipate or move north as a weak warm front late Wednesday into early Thursday.

What’s the forecast for the rest of the week?

While there is still a small chance of showers along the border early Thursday morning, the chance remains at or below 10%. There will be a strong harmonic over the northern high plains on Thursday, producing strong southerly winds at speeds of 15 to 30 miles per hour.

Morning temperatures will be in the upper 50s to lower 60s, with afternoon highs approaching 90 degrees. The rate of fire spread will increase Thursday along and northwest of the I-44 corridor. As this strong system moves east, a stronger front will move south, resulting in cooler conditions Friday with northerly winds of 10 to 15 mph and highs in the upper 70s to low 80s.

Highest temperatures on Thursday

There will be a chance for isolated showers and storms early Friday as the front moves into northeastern Oklahoma, particularly in the far northeastern part of the state and southeastern Kansas. However, the probability for the metropolitan area is still at or below 10%.

Rain zone on Thursday/Friday

This front will bring some slight relief for the weekend with morning lows in the 50s and daytime highs in the mid 70s on Saturday and near 80 on Sunday.

A pattern change is possible next week as strong northerly flow shifts southward, coinciding with the development of a robust upper-level system across the western United States. This broad depression is expected to bring the threat of showers and storms to the state by mid to late next week.

7-day temperature timeline

Additionally, one or possibly two autumnal fronts will move in, providing a taste of cooler weather. Ahead of this transition, temperatures are expected to rise back into the mid-80s by early to mid next week. The early forecast for late next week brings highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s.
