CovData: Foot traffic in Covington sets record during four-day BLINK Light and Arts Festival

If downtown Covington seemed crowded last weekend during BLINK’s four-day outdoor light and art event, it was. Very crowded. Especially compared to every other evening in 2024.

This graphic shows the highest foot traffic night after night during the event compared to every other evening in 2024 in the area where the BLINK installations were featured.

The peak night – Saturday – is more than double the previous two peaks for the year, which we believe were reached during the St. Patrick’s Day weekend celebrations in mid-March and the Labor Day riverfront fireworks display in early September.

(Data from the City of Covington)

The number does not represent all people who were in the city center at a certain time, but only those with cell phones switched on who were in the period from 7 p.m. to midnight (i.e. not residents or employees of the city center).

Placer.ai software uses data and algorithms to estimate visits.

The data Placer.ai aggregates comes from hundreds of mobile partner apps (that collect data from mobile devices).
