My, what a difference a musk makes – PJ Media

My, what a difference a musk makes – PJ Media

The best of the briefing

Happy Thursday, dear Kruiser Morning Briefing friends. Kelembra insisted that her ayahuasca “journeys” had convinced her that her desire to create nothing but velvet paintings of Ted Bundy was a lofty goal.

As we head into what are hopefully the final days of this election cycle that seems to have been going on for a decade, I often compare this election to 2020, looking for differences that might bring hope. It’s a bit strange; I tend to obscure any of it annus horribilis.

Clearly, removing the fog of pandemic tyranny from the equation is extremely positive. For conservatives, however, I think the biggest positive of this election is the completely unexpected emergence of Elon Musk as a staunch defender of free speech and conservative Americans.

I’m a space geek, so I was already a Musk fan before he bought Twitter and renamed it the social media gentlemen’s club X.

Twitter was an online gathering place for grassroots conservative activists in the early days of the Tea Party. I founded the Los Angeles Tea Party in 2009 with three other people I had never met before. I knew two of them on Twitter, where we planned the whole thing. Most of my good friends from that time are people I first met on Twitter.

Conservative activists were big fans of Twitter. I spent a few years traveling the country teaching aspiring Tea Party activists how to use Twitter and Facebook as tools for the movement. We were basically Twitter evangelists.

Then Jack Dorsey and Mark Zuckerberg turned against us.

Twitter and Facebook spent the entire 2020 election treating conservative activists and conservative media like enemy combatants. We all remember how it went, especially those of us who were financially affected.

Zuckerberg recently expressed regret about it, but as I wrote last month, it was far too little, far too late.

Dorsey left Twitter in 2021, but his progressive minions remained in place. They had to be canceled, which Musk did in late 2022.

To put it mildly, Musk’s takeover of Twitter caused an uproar among many on the left. Last December I wrote that he was making just the right enemies.

Musk’s commitment to free speech terrifies leftists around the world. They’ve been trying to ruin it for the last few years. My friend Stephen Green explained how the Biden administration is hindering SpaceX because they don’t like Musk’s policies. Yesterday in the town hall my colleague Sarah Arnold described the desire of a left-wing group to “kill” X.

Musk’s support of Donald Trump really gets poor people excited and it’s fun to watch.

Our sister site Twitchy reported on Tim Walz’s recent spaz-out about Musk, which Politico received with great enthusiasm. Walz mocked Musk for jumping around on stage with Trump and “jumping like an idiot.” Yes, that would be the same Tim Walz who regularly jumps around the stage like a toddler whose diaper is almost overflowing.

There would be a lot to like about Musk even if he wasn’t there. Mr. Green’s latest VIP column is a brilliant deep dive into what he calls in his headline, “The Interlocking Genius of Elon Musk.” I can’t recommend it enough.

If the republic is saved from the abyss by a Trump election victory, Elon Musk will have played a significant role in it. Yes, the money he spent on the election is a huge deal.

However, it is Musk’s commitment to free speech that will make all the difference. He has allowed those of us who toil on the conservative side of media to once again use Twitter/X as the digital town square and marketing tool that made us love it in the first place. It’s also very valuable for conservatives who feel isolated and discouraged when they find out that there are many more people like them out there.

Musk has tirelessly pointed out that the First Amendment is actually on the ballot this year because, as my HotAir colleague David Strom points out, Kamala Harris wants to kill it.

Republicans may not have all tech billionaires on their side. However, having the biggest one is a start.
