OU fraternity has been temporarily suspended following an investigation into the reported harassment

NORMAN, Okla. (KFOR) – The University of Oklahoma has temporarily suspended the Nu Omega chapter of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.

OU’s Fiji fraternity is under investigation over harassment allegations, and although rumors are circulating, the university is not releasing details, sending News 4 the following statement:

“The OU Office of Student Conduct and Phi Gamma Delta International Headquarters have temporarily suspended operations of the OU FIJI Chapter as of September 2024 due to misconduct and hazing allegations. The chapter is currently in the conduct process.”

Kesha Keith, Director of Strategic Initiatives

Students on campus said they were not surprised to hear about the hazing allegations.

“It’s just crazy to hear about it,” said Sarah Wisniewski, a student.

Students also want details and consider the consequences.

“I mean, if I heard someone refer to something like a fraternity or fraternity, I know that, I wouldn’t want to be a part of that,” Wisniewski said.

“It’s definitely like getting into a fraternity, it seems. But some of it is actually extreme, just like what these guys are doing,” said Max Lalli, a student.

We went to the fraternity house, but the woman who answered closed the door on us.

Fiji’s international office did not comment on camera but said in a statement that it was cooperating.

The International Fraternity temporarily suspended its Nu Omega chapter at the University of Oklahoma following harassment allegations last month and has been cooperating with the university in the investigation. The chapter remains temporarily suspended until the allegations are resolved.

“Just sounds like physical abuse to me. I think this is a bit unnecessary. There are definitely other ways to approach hazing,” Lalli said.

The students said they would follow the case and that abuse had no place in college life.

“I mean, I don’t want to go through that,” Wisniewski said.

“Definitely deserved. Maybe you don’t break the connection, but you definitely have to learn from the mistake they made,” Lalli said.

The university is not releasing details about what led to the hazing investigation.

The Norman Police Department said no report has been filed with them.
