Rain is expected in the Twin Cities on Thursday after 34 days of drought

MINNEAPOLIS – It’s not much, but a system will move through Minnesota on Thursday and produce rain across the region.

Before the front arrives, a strong southerly wind is expected, causing temperatures in the twin cities to rise to up to 60°C.

Rain will hit the metro sometime between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., with a quarter to half an inch of rainfall expected. In some areas there will be more.

The system is pretty fast and doesn’t leave a lot of water behind. Expect everything to clear up overnight and highs Friday to be in the mid to upper 50s. It will be a beautiful and sunny autumn day.

Saturday will be a repeat of Friday, with sunshine and highs in the 60s. Sunday will be warmer, with highs in the mid to upper 60s. It will also be a windy day. The weekend will remain dry as a ridge moves in.

There will be another brief warm-up early next week with highs in the low to mid 70s.

Tuesday will see a mix of sun and clouds with high temperatures in the upper 60s to 70s, which is still above average.

Clouds will then move in and a weak system will move in, bringing another chance for a patchy shower. Highs will fall back into the 50s.
