It’s record-breakingly hot along the way, but cool changes follow

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A big weather change is coming as we head into Arizona. Record temperatures will finally dip below normal, and this time next week it will feel like it’s falling.

A strong ridge of high pressure continues to prevail over the desert southwest. Expect a high of 97 in Phoenix today and the upper 90s again tomorrow.

Even hotter weather is expected Saturday when we are expected to reach a high of 100 degrees, which would break a record for the day. Look for sunshine and well-above-average afternoon temperatures throughout the weekend. A little more cloud cover should keep temperatures in the upper 90s on Sunday.

Next week, high pressure will begin to weaken and shift in response to a strong trough of low pressure approaching from the northwest. This storm will produce windy conditions across the state on Monday and a cold front will move through the state. Rain or snow will occur Monday night through Wednesday, but will be mostly limited to areas north of Interstate 40 in northern Arizona.

The upcoming storm likely won’t bring much moisture, but it will bring a rush of cooler air. Temperatures will be around 90 degrees to start the week on Monday, but will drop to the upper 70s on Tuesday. A second storm will likely follow with an intensifying shot of cooler air, keeping temperatures in the 70s for the rest of the week, including Halloween.
