Former NC governors demand respect for the state’s voting process via video

RALIEGH, N.C. (WITN) – Two former governors from opposite parties are joining forces in an online video, urging voters to respect the state’s voting process regardless of the results.

Former Republican Gov. Jim Martin and Democratic former Gov. Mike Easley sit down in a new video streaming online across the state as voter turnout in North Carolina hits records during the early voting period.

In the video, funded by Common Cause North Carolina, the two former governors express their confidence in North Carolina’s electoral process.

Officials say ballots cast so far are almost evenly split between Republican, Democratic and independent voters.

Easley explains in the video: “We don’t agree on everything. But we agree on this… There is a process in place to ensure that votes are counted and reported correctly.”

Martin echoes the statement, saying, “It is a process we should respect no matter who wins.” Hundreds of dedicated people are working to ensure this election is fair, safe and accurate.”

Martin served from 1985 to 1993 and Easley from 2001 to 2009.

Early voting runs through November 2nd. Election day is November 5th.
