Scaremongering: How police are getting creative with Halloween safety tips

One of the best uses of social media – some would say its only use – may be to quickly and efficiently alert and educate the public to ensure the safety of community members. Government agencies have found it can be an effective tool for keeping citizens informed about missing children, impending severe weather, upcoming events and other information.

Police departments in particular have found social media useful for publicizing arrests and fleeing lawbreakers, providing tips on avoiding scams and warning about distracted driving. But It can be challenging to get the public’s attention to eat their vegetables when they are presented with a seemingly endless internet buffet of low-calorie desserts.

However, sometimes these practical contributions need a touch of spice. Or, in the case of some police departments sharing Halloween safety tips, a little blood and guts. Figuratively speaking.

Here’s a look at some of the creative touches law enforcement agencies have added to their annual Halloween safety tips videos. You better get your popcorn.
