Samsung prepares Wear OS 5 update for Galaxy Watch and ends beta

Samsung prepares Wear OS 5 update for Galaxy Watch and ends beta

After a few months in beta, Samsung is finally ready to start rolling out Wear OS 5 to select Galaxy Watch models.

Back in June, Samsung launched a beta program for One UI 6 Watch on its Galaxy Watch 6 series and later expanded it to older models. The update is based on Wear OS 5 and is shipping immediately on the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra. However, since this update requires users to register manually, the vast majority of Galaxy Watch owners have yet to receive Wear OS 5.

That should now change.

Samsung has just rolled out the stable Wear OS 5 update to Galaxy Watch 6 owners who were enrolled in the One UI 6 Watch beta program. According to Samsung, this marks the official end of the beta program and usually leads to a stable rollout quickly.

After updating to this latest version, Watch 6 owners enrolled in the beta program will automatically return to the stable update track, as no further beta versions will be available until next year’s update. The exact schedule is still unclear, but will probably be very soon.

Google, meanwhile, started rolling out Wear OS 5 for Pixel Watch and Watch 2 earlier this month, but paused the update due to various issues.
