Botetourt County deputies arrest man wanted for probation violation following standoff

FINCASTLE, Va. – The Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a suspect wanted for a probation violation in connection with a home invasion.

A search warrant was served on the fugitive on Wednesday. Officers were dispatched to Brookfield Ct in the Brookfield subdivision around 6:15 p.m. after being informed that a wanted man was staying at a home there.

Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement attempted to speak with the suspect; However, he had hidden in the house and refused to surrender.

After repeated failed attempts to negotiate with the subject, officers obtained and executed a search warrant to enter the premises and safely arrest the suspect.

Around 9 p.m., the front door was forced open, the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident, according to the sheriff’s office.

The suspect was identified as 52-year-old Steven Burnette of Roanoke. He was charged with obstruction of justice and served with the original arrest warrant for violating probation.

Burnette is currently being held without bail at the Botetourt-Craig Regional Jail.
