2 arrested in shooting that led to southbound I-25 closure for hours

Two men were arrested this week on suspicion of attempted murder after Denver police closed southbound Interstate 25 on Monday to investigate a shooting on Friday.

Burr Charlesworth, 42, and Luis Mendoza, 35, were both arrested on investigation of attempted murder and assault after they allegedly shot two men on southbound I-25 Friday, according to a news release from the Denver Police Department.

At approximately 3:12 a.m. Friday, Denver officers responded to reports of a shooting on southbound I-25 near Colorado Boulevard, police said in the news release.

Two men driving together on the interstate were shot in their car and stopped on the shoulder of southbound I-25 near Belleview Avenue, police said. Paramedics took both men to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Denver police closed the highway for several hours Monday to investigate the shooting and are working to identify additional suspects, the release said.
