Another arrest was made as part of the investigation into suspected thefts at Hammock’s HOA – NBC 6 South Florida

Another arrest came as part of a years-long investigation into the alleged theft of funds from the Hammocks Home Owners Association, prosecutors said.

Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle will announce the latest arrest at a news conference Thursday afternoon.

The arrest is at least the sixth in 2022 involving Hammocks HOA board members and their relatives.

Five were arrested in November 2022 after being accused of stealing millions from the HOA in a years-long scheme.

Among those arrested were CEO Monica Ghilardi, who was charged with extortion and grand theft, and former president and treasurer Marglli Gallego, who was charged with extortion and organized fraud.

Gallego’s husband Jose Gonzalez and his cousin Kevin Leonardo Alzate were also arrested, along with board members Myriam Rodgers and Yoleidis Lopez.

The Hammocks HOA serves approximately 40 communities with more than 6,500 residential units and is one of the largest homeowners associations in the state.

The HOA theft scandal led to the creation of a new state law to protect homeowners.
