Five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025 on Thursday along with twin brothers Bob and Mike Bryan.

The trio will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island on August 23rd

“Beyond all of their historic achievements on the court, the Class of 2025 has had such a profound impact on the game of tennis and has inspired multiple generations of fans around the world,” said Kim Clijsters, President of the International Tennis Hall of Fame. “We look forward to celebrating them in Newport next year.”

Sharapova achieved the Grand Slam of her career, winning the French Open twice (2012, 2014), Wimbledon once (2004), the US Open (2006) and the Australian Open (2008). She won 36 singles titles and was the first Russian woman to reach No. 1 (2005).

Sharapova, now 37, retired in 2020 after a 19-year career.

“I knew Kim Clijsters would be the source of good news!” Sharapova said after being contacted by Clijsters via video call. “I remember the first time I thought about the prestige of the Hall of Fame: After I won my first Grand Slam, I was asked about a dress I wanted to display in the museum and I thought, ‘Oh my God.’ It was one of those moments of joy that comes after a big win.

“In retirement you rarely get to think about the past because you move on so quickly with the tasks of life. This is an incredible recognition. Thank you. I’m so grateful to the Hall of Fame and the voters.”

The now 46-year-old Bryans won 119 titles together, including 16 Grand Slams, and won the Olympic gold medal in London in 2012.

“It’s been a great ride, the career, doing it together,” Bob said in a virtual call with Clijsters.

“A lot of people have been involved in our career,” Mike added. “Of course, our parents, who enjoyed tennis, supported us along the way with unconditional love and support.”
