MTU Soccer completes the home game schedule this weekend

HOUGHTON, Mich. – It’s the final home weekend of the regular season for the Michigan Tech football team, which plays Purdue Northwest on Friday at 5 p.m. and Roosevelt on Sunday at noon for Senior Day.

Seniors Molly Bolang, Emily Clayton, Jordan Noble, Taylor Noble, Julia Pietila And Ella Roach will be honored following the competition on Sunday.

About pride

Purdue Northwest has enjoyed success under third-year head coach Mary Whisler and is currently ranked ninth in the Midwest with an overall record of 6-1-5 and 3-1-4 in the GLIAC.

The Pride have scored 15 goals this season, averaging 11.1 shots per game and 1.25 goals per game. Senior forward Amaris Gonzalez leads the offense with four goals and one assist. She is joined by Emma Carter with multiple goals this season, two goals to go and two assists. Garcia Yoselin ranks second in the GLIAC with five assists, and Addison Thomas added four assists.

Sophomore goaltender Meta Fischer took 103 shots and saved 42 for an overall record of 5-1-4 with five shutouts. She averages 4.2 saves per game with a save percentage of .857.

The Pride won their first meeting against the Huskies 2-1 in Hammond, Indiana on September 27th.

About the Lakers

Roosevelt travels to UP with a three-game losing streak and an overall record of 0-8-4 and 0-7-2 in the round.

The Lakers posted back-to-back scoreless ties in GLIAC play against Parkside (October 4) and Purdue Northwest (October 11) before losing their last three games. Despite the losses, Roosevelt scored goals in two of the three contests, doubling his league goal total. Daisy Hernandez-Loya scored in the 3-1 loss to Davenport (October 13), while Aaliyah Leanos scored in the first half of the 3-1 loss to Parkside (October 20).

Senior midfielder Macias Paola leads the Lakers’ offense with two goals and one assist, while leading the team with 10 shots on goal this season.

Junior goaltender Roxy Herrera started all 12 games for the Lakers this season with a .721 save percentage and faced 250 shots with 80 saves. That puts him first in the GLIAC and 25th in the country.

Michigan Tech won the first meeting of the season 6-0 on Sept. 29 in Arlington Heights.

About the Huskies

With five games remaining in the regular season, Michigan Tech holds an overall record of 4-8 and 2-7 in the round.

The Huskies produce 13.3 shots per game and 1.08 goals per game and almost twice as many corners as their opponent (68-36). The Black & Gold average 5.67 corners per game, ranking second in the league and in the top 50 nationally.

Senior striker Julia Pietila ranked third in the GLIAC with 13 points, scoring six goals and one assist. Their six points and two game-winners rank second in the league.

goalkeeper Bri Barrows has started 11 games for MTU this season with a .772 save percentage, made 90 shots and recorded 44 saves. She has three shutouts in the combine and has a record of 4-7.

One last thing

The Huskies posted their highest-scoring game in three seasons with a 6-0 win in their first meeting against first-year GLIAC affiliate Roosevelt. Five players scored goals in the win, led by Pietila, who had two goals and an assist. Kiersen Korienek, Brooke Green, Taylor Noble And Molly Bolang achieved the victory.
