It turns out that a World Series matchup between Major League Baseball’s two most popular teams, pitting the sport’s two biggest stars against each other, is generating huge demand for tickets.

Online ticket seller TickPick (h/t CNN’s Jordan Valinsky) said the average ticket price for a game between the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers is a record $1,703 on the secondary market.

The previous record was $1,693 in 2016, when the Chicago Cubs ended their 108-year championship drought in a thrilling seven-game series against Cleveland.

Stubhub (h/t Jeff Eisenberg of Yahoo Sports) has announced that the matchup between the Yankees and Dodgers is already the best-selling World Series in the company’s 24-year history.

As of Wednesday afternoon, TickPick’s cheapest resale ticket for Friday’s Game 1 was more than double the cheapest ticket for Game 1 of the last five World Series.

Per listing on Vivid Seats for the entire series (h/t Matt Levy des New York Post), the lowest price for a game at this time is $896 for Game 4 at Yankee Stadium.

All four games at Dodger Stadium currently have a ticket price of more than $1,000 when fees are included. Unsurprisingly, the most expensive game currently costs $1,323 (fees included) for a potential Game 7.

The hype is understandable for several reasons, not the least of which is that this is the Yankees’ first World Series appearance since 2009. It is the longest gap between trips to the Fall Classic in franchise history.

Add to that the anticipation that Yankees fans have to see their team in the World Series and the fact that Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani – the presumptive MVP winners in their respective leagues – will be playing against each other for a champion to determine. It’s no surprise that the World Series is an expensive ticket.

Additionally, the Dodgers have their own storied history and a huge fan base that will generate a lot of interest in the World Series.

If you can afford to tune in, Game 1 between the Yankees and Dodgers will be played in Los Angeles on Friday at 8:08 p.m. ET.
