I review TVs for a living – so I won’t be buying an 8K TV any time soon

Although 8K resolution offers more detail and color than 4K TVs, there are plenty of reasons to wait to upgrade.

Google and Amazon both offer a similar feature

AI-generated wallpapers will likely soon be found on every TV

Samsung isn’t the first tech company to put AI-generated wallpapers on its TVs, and it certainly won’t be the last. Both Google TV and Amazon’s Fire TV already have this feature.

Google TV’s AI-generated background feature is similar to Samsung’s and can also be accessed from the Ambient Mode settings. From there, you can either enter a prompt, select an art style, or use Inspire Me to create a random AI wallpaper.

It’s currently unclear whether Samsung’s generative background feature on TVs will allow users to enter a prompt to generate a background or if they can simply choose from available themes. Samsung has a generative AI background feature on its smartphones in the Creative section when you change your wallpaper. This feature allows you to provide a prompt when creating a wallpaper. So presumably Samsung’s TV feature could be available at launch or later.

I can imagine that AI-generated wallpapers on TVs could be cool to create a certain atmosphere when having a party or just having company. But what happened to turning off the TV when you’re not using it?

Personally, I think I’d rather just put a fireplace video on the TV during the holidays instead of an AI-generated wallpaper.
