Chael Sonnen explains why he believes Robert Whittaker will beat Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 308

Robert Whittaker and Khamzat Chimaev are just days away from going to war in a battle that has been brewing for some time.

The Swedish icon has long been considered the future of the 185-pound division. When his bout with “The Reaper” was first announced for UFC Saudi Arabia on June 22, many expected the impressive grappler to take his next step toward greatness.

Unfortunately, Chimaev had to withdraw from the competition due to illness, giving Whittaker the opportunity to remind everyone how good he is with a beautiful knockout win over Ikram Aliskerov.

Now the MMA community is divided over how the fight will turn out, as each man has top-level skills.

However, Chael Sonnen is confident the Australian will claim victory in a fight entertaining enough to go down in history.

In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, the Oregon native claimed, “Robert Whittaker is a real guy to beat – ask Yoel Romero.” Over ten rounds, he defeated “Bobby Knuckles” twice.

“The probability of [Chimaev] Getting him off again and again, round after round, is really very small. And what happens then? Well, Chimaev clashed with Gilbert Burns and did some things we didn’t know he could do.

“At one point he suffered burns, then Chimaev got his legs back under him and returned fire, a dog fight ensued. I’m sharing it just for you; This is a very special game.

“I think it’s possible for one guy to beat the other guy in the ass and penetrate him right through. But I think this is much more Robert Whittaker than Chimaev. We have a long drawn out fight here.”

Israel Adesanya predicts shocking ‘late finish’ as Robert Whittaker fights Khamzat Chimaev

Like the rest of the fighting community, Sonnen literally salivates at the prospect of watching two icons of the sport compete against each other.

And it seems former middleweight world champion Israel Adesanya is equally intrigued by the clash.

“The Last Stylebender” can’t wait for the fight and expects one of the fighters to call for a late stoppage.

But which man does he think will win?
