Teen arrested as part of a threat investigation at Opelika High School

OPELIKA, Ala. (WTVM) – A Montgomery teenager is in custody for allegedly threatening Opelika High School on Tuesday.

Opelika police arrested the 14-year-old on Oct. 23 make a terrorist threata crime. The juvenile was transported to the Lee County Youth Development Center in Opelika.

Opelika High was placed on lockdown Tuesday, Oct. 22, after someone threatened that they were on their way to shoot up the school, officials said.

Opelika police officers, with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigations, were able to trace the phone to a residence in Montgomery. According to officers, a search warrant was executed at the apartment and the cell phone, which was in the teenager’s possession, was seized.

Officials also say an initial investigation revealed there was no plan to follow through on the threat.
