Michael Griffos Pen pals has made an Off-Broadway bow at St. Clement’s Theater, where performances begin Dec. 5 ahead of opening night Dec. 11. SuzAnne Barabas directs the production, with a portion of the proceeds going to the non-profit breast cancer organization Susan G. Komen.

Johanna Day (Sweat) and Nancy McKeon (The facts of life) will lead the production as Bernie and Mags, respectively, two women who live in different countries and are best friends thanks to a 50-year pen pal relationship despite never having met. The work had its world premiere at the New Jersey Repertory Company earlier this month. McKeon and Barabas repeat their work from this run.

“It’s an honor to be able to produce Pen pals“, a show that celebrates the extraordinary in women’s everyday lives by demonstrating the strength of friendship and female empowerment,” says Lisa Dozier Shacket, who leads the production team. “We are excited for audiences to experience this beautiful show and see a piece of their own humanity in the story of Bernie and Mags.

Scenic designer Jessica Parks, lighting designer Jill Nagle and sound designer Nick Simone will also reprise their work from the New Jersey run. For the Off-Broadway arc, costume design is handled by David C. Wollard, with Rose Riccardi serving as production stage manager. Shacket produces with Anthony Hazzard and Scott Stolzenberg in association with NJ Repertory Company. Logan DeWitt is an associate producer.
