The Douglas County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council is seeking community input to improve the criminal justice system.

A survey is open until November 4th at 5:00 p.m. By providing input, residents can help ensure the CJCC’s strategic plan focuses on areas that are most important to the community. All individual responses remain confidential and will only be shared in aggregate form, according to a district press release.

The survey is conducted in collaboration with the Justice Management Institute (JMI), a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing justice systems through research, education and technical assistance. JMI has supported the CJCC through a strategic planning process that began in January.

The mission of the Douglas County CJCC is to be an advisory body that provides an open, transparent, and collaborative forum for justice system partners, stakeholders, and community members to come together to share information, resolve problems, and make evidence-based recommendations to improve the law Criminal justice system.

“We strive for a fair and equitable experience for all and balance the criminal justice footprint with public safety expectations in Douglas County,” Criminal Justice Coordinator Katy Fitzgerald said in the release.

Over the past 18 months, the CJCC underwent a comprehensive evaluation process and revised its charter to better align with national standards for CJCCs. This fall, the CJCC is continuing on that path and developing a comprehensive strategic plan to guide its core efforts for the 2025-2027 fiscal year.

“CJCC recently conducted focus groups to gather input for the strategic plan and now we are seeking input from the general public,” Fitzgerald said. “We encourage residents to complete the survey and provide feedback as this will guide the work of the CJCC.”
