Prosecutors called several witnesses in a non-fatal shooting trial Oct. 22 before D.C. Superior Court Judge Judith Pipe.

Cornellius Ruffin, 40, is charged with, among other things, assault with serious bodily injury during armed violence, assault with a dangerous weapon and two counts of possession of a firearm during a crime of violence for his alleged involvement in a non-fatal shooting that occurred on April 12, 2021 200 block of Bates Street, NW, one victim injured.

Ruffin is also charged with unlawful use of a vehicle in a separate case.

During the hearing, prosecutors called several Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers as witnesses.

Two of them said they were present when Ruffin was arrested. An officer testified that a ghost gun was recovered from a suspected accomplice, which was a gun without a serial number, making it untraceable.

Prosecutors also called a cell tower tracking analyst who created a detailed call recording for a phone number associated with Ruffin based on radio frequency waves. It was determined to have been in the vicinity of the crime scene.

The trial continues on October 23rd.
