(Gray News) – A 114-year-old woman from Pennsylvania just became the oldest living person in the United States.

Naomi Whitehead celebrated her 114th year of life on September 28th with friends and family.

According to LongeviQuest, Whitehead was born Naomi Washington on September 26, 1910, on a farm in Georgia.

At a young age, she began helping her family by picking cotton and tobacco. She said that there were horses on the farm and that even at the age of 113 she was afraid of being kicked by them.

In 1930 she married her husband Sylvester Whitehead. The couple had three sons: Parrish L., who died in 2011, Elbert and Sylvester. Naomi Whitehead’s husband died in the 1980s.

On October 22, Naomi Whitehead became the oldest living person in the country after Elizabeth Francis of Texas died at the age of 115.

As of Thursday, Naomi Whitehead is 114 years and 28 days old.

LongeviQuest said she is the seventh oldest living person in the world and the oldest living person in North America.
