Emporia State professor appears in court after being arrested on child solicitation charges

EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW) – An Emporia State University professor has been arrested for child molestation crimes.

Johnson County jail records show Howard Pitler, 72, was arrested Oct. 23 on a charge of electronic solicitation of a child under 14 years old. He is held on a $25,000 bond.

According to a report from the Emporia Gazette, Pitler made his first appearance in Johnson County Court on Thursday, October 24 at 1:30 p.m. The Gazette states that the arrest stems from an alleged incident in February 2023.
