Amazon confirms the end of its popular service for customers – exact date when additional delivery benefits for shoppers will no longer apply

AMAZON has confirmed it is discontinuing a hugely popular service for customers.

The online giant is trying to reduce overlap in its fast shipping options – which led to the closure of Amazon Today.

Amazon Today is a same-day delivery program that accepts orders at retailers’ local stores.

The program will no longer offer delivery and in-store collection services from select retail partners from January 24, 2025, a spokesperson has confirmed to The Sun.

But don’t worry – most products available on Amazon Today will continue to be available via other same-day or next-day delivery methods.

The team consists of around 175 people, but most of those affected by the closure of the program will be transferred to other positions within the company.

Amazon Today’s closure is to streamline its offerings as it has seen “increasing overlap” between its other fast delivery programs and the service, a spokesperson told The Sun.

The Prime delivery service, launched in 2022, included brands such as PacSun, GNC and SuperDry.

Amazon has previously recommended its Today program to offer customers a wider range of products at lightning speed.

And retailers involved in the program had to ensure that their in-store fulfillment operations met Amazon’s high expectations.

For example, as of January 2023, stores were required to maintain an incredible 99 percent pickup readiness rate – meaning orders were successfully packaged and delivered within an hour of being placed.

Although Amazon Today will soon no longer exist, the online giant continues to expand its fast shipping options.

An Amazon spokesperson told The Sun: “As we have continued to expand the selection available with same-day and one-day delivery, we have noticed a growing overlap between these programs and Amazon Today, so after careful consideration we have created one Decision made.” the decision to discontinue Amazon Today.

“As a result, we will optimize our offerings for customers, and the majority of the selection our customers buy on Amazon today will continue to be available for same-day and one-day delivery.”

“In the U.S., Amazon offers same-day delivery in more than 120 metropolitan areas, and Prime members can shop tens of millions of the most popular items across 35 product categories with same-day and one-day delivery.”

This comes at a time when Amazon has launched a brand new Fire Stick device as part of its latest product shakeup.

The move comes as the retail giant also just announced new Kindles, including the company’s first color e-reader.

But if you want to stream television without breaking your budget, you now have to use the new Amazon Fire TV Stick HD.

It replaces the existing Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick Lite.

At first glance, you may find it difficult to even notice anything else.

The stick itself looks the same as before, in a black, rectangular shape.

And even though “HD” has been added to the name, it’s still 1080p Full HD – which is what previous models were capable of.

They appear to have the same processing power and storage capacity, also 8 GB.

But in the box there is a small change, at least for the Lite version.

The controller has been updated to the controller last released this year.

Again, most people may find it difficult to notice the difference.

However, there are some new keys compared to those previously included in the Lite version.

It now offers full control for your TV and Fire Stick, allowing you to adjust volume and mute without having to use your TV’s main remote.

This can also be used for soundbars.
