Men’s tennis hosts the MAC indoor qualifying event

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men’s tennis team welcomes the rest of the Mid-American Conference to Kalamazoo and West Hills Athletic Club on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the 2024 MAC Indoor Qualifying Event.

The new tournament format now calls for the winner of the top singles draw and the winner of the top doubles draw to represent the MAC at the ITA Conference Masters Championships in Rome, Georgia, November 7-10.

WMUs Anton Arzhankin And Ashton Adesoro represent the Broncos in the Singles A Draw, the tournament’s top draw. Arzhankin has a bye to the quarterfinals and will face Ball State winner Nathaniel Webster and UIC’s Artem Alekseychuck. Adesoro drew Toledo’s Hanamichi Carvajal in the opening round.

Arzhankin will also work with the sophomore Drew Evans in the highest doubles game. The pair will face Ball State’s Ian Brady and Sanjin Smith and play Toledo’s Carvajal and Charlie Snow, who were given a bye. Brogan Pierce And Jack Davison are also in the Doubles A draw and will face UT’s Poonthong Komolpisut and Joshua Mackey.

Freshmen Jack Davison And Oscar Corwin will represent the Broncos in the Singles B Draw. Davison starts against NIU’s Chiao Bo Sua Nan, while Corwin will play against IUC’s Simon Knezevic. In the single C draw it will be the second semester Matej Kajzer takes on Angus Howard of the Huskies. Second semester Dimitri Moriarty is in the singles D draw and will play Buffalo’s Faiz Nasyam. Evans and Adrian Quiros are scheduled for Singles E, with Evans facing Youssef Mokhles of the Flames and Quiros facing Anthony Shalakov of the Cardinals.

The Broncos will field three teams in Double B Drae, with Adesoro and Solomon Dirnsun working together as a team, Alexander Anonopoulos and Corwin as a pair and Quiros and Kajzer as a team. Adesoro and Dunsirn have a bye in the first round while the other two pairs face each other in the first.
