There is an ongoing voter fraud investigation in Mesa County

MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) — Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold announced Thursday that approximately a dozen ballots were fraudulently filled out and cast in Mesa County on Thursday. A criminal investigation is underway to determine who did it.

Griswold said the ballots were captured during the signature verification process. The ballots had been intercepted before voters even saw them, filled out and signed, and then returned to the Mesa County clerk and recorder’s office. When the Mesa County clerk and recorder contacted these voters, the voters told the clerk that they never voted.

The discovery led to a comprehensive investigation of all ballots received in Mesa County to date.

“I just want to highlight the resilience of our process here in Colorado and show that when someone tries to do nefarious things, it will be discovered by our prosecutors,” said Matt Crane, executive director of the Colorado County Clerks Association. “It’s also a great sign that voters took responsibility when they received this letter to reach out to the county and say, ‘Hey, we think there’s a problem here.’

Griswold also confirmed that the U.S. Postal Service was involved in the investigation because the fraudulent ballots were sent through the mail.

The investigation is ongoing. This is a developing story.
