Nine jurors selected for Mustafa Bush’s criminal trial

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – Jury selection took place Thursday for the criminal trial of Mustafa Bush – a Rochester man charged with the December 2022 murder of Kimberly Ann Robinson, 41, of Eyota.

During jury selection, attorneys for both sides interviewed a total of 41 jurors, of which nine were selected. Five of those jurors were selected Thursday. Olmsted District Attorney Mark Ostrem indicated that the jury was originally empty when the defense filed a motion Monday.

Attorneys asked jurors their opinions on issues such as domestic violence, law enforcement and race – issues that played a crucial role in this criminal case.

Among the jurors interviewed was a woman who attended high school with Bush and knew him. She was not selected as a juror. Another candidate exempted from jury duties was a Jehovah’s Witness. He explained that his religious views conflicted with the legal approach to murder.

Jury selection continues Friday morning, and 14 potential jurors were originally scheduled for questioning at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. But lawyers said they were concerned that not enough candidates would be selected. This means that five more jurors were scheduled for Friday afternoon.

The next trial date after jury selection on Friday is Monday morning.

Bush is currently in the Olmsted County Jail charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of second-degree murder.
