The WPIAL (PIAA District 7) football playoffs continue Thursday with the girls 4A/3A and boys 2A teams in action.

Here is our thread for GIRLS CLASS 4A as anything can happen as there are many talented players and strong squads among all eight quarterfinalists.

Matchday notes

Two defending champions in the same field?

The 16-team field includes two defending WPIAL champions, Fox Chapel, which won Class 4A last season, and South Fayette as the top two seeds. But don’t think for a second that they are the clear favorites. Moon and Mars are two programs that cannot be ignored, both because of their past successes and their experienced coaches.

All of these teams advanced in the first round on Monday, setting the stage for more challenging games on Thursday as competition was sure to intensify in a classification where the games became increasingly tight as the tournament progressed last year. We expect the same thing again when the teams in this ranking fight for a place in the Final Four.
