Girls tennis: Minnewaska duo and Litchfield’s Dille advance to semifinals – West Central Tribune

MINNEAPOLIS – Minnewaska’s Megan Thorfinnson and Alia Randt are still alive in the Class A state doubles tournament after the first two rounds of play Thursday at Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center.

Thorfinnson and Randt are the tournament’s third seeds. The duo opened with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Sophia Nerison and Livia Tennisen of Cannon Falls. Thorfinson and Randt then defeated Blake’s Regan Blass and Louisa Cohen 7-5, 6-2 to advance to the semifinals, where they will face Maple River’s Ally Mersman and Madison Ward.

Also playing in the semifinals is Isla Dille from Litchfield.

Dille, seeded fourth, defeated unseeded Vivian Mader of Waseca 6-2, 6-0 in the first round. In the quarterfinals she beat fifth-seeded Leah Maddock from Osakis 6:1, 7:6 (4). Dille will play Chloe Alley of Minnehaha Academy in the semifinals, which begin at 8 a.m. Friday. Alley is the top seed. Play will continue throughout the afternoon with the championship scheduled for later in the day.

Brooke Lindeman of Montevideo lost in the first round 6-4, 7-6 (4) to Braylee Wienan of Thief River Falls.

Also in doubles, Hannah Oie and Kayla Jahn from Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd caused the surprise of the day in the first round. The unseeded duo defeated top seeds Camila Pardo and Nora Ibrani of The Blake School 6-3, 2-6, 6-3. Oie and Jahn then lost to Therese Bauer and Rylee Thieren from Lake City 6:4, 6:1.

Litchfield’s Molly Patten and Emma Knudsen also tied 1-1 on Thursday. The fifth-seeded Dragons opened with a 5-7, 6-0, 6-4 victory over Tali Bellefye and Meg Santini of Holy Family Catholic. Patten and Knudsen then lost to Macy Sohre and Kelsey Jaeger of Maple River 6-1, 6-1.
