Judge dismisses charges in shooting of Flint toddler

FLINT, Mich. (WNEM) – The case against a man charged in connection with the shooting death of his young son has been dismissed, according to court records.

Omar Guy, 26, was charged with multiple felonies and one misdemeanor, including violating Michigan’s safe storage law, after his 2-year-old son shot himself with an unsecured gun on May 15.

Court records show Judge Vikki Bayeh Haley dismissed all eight charges against Guy on Oct. 22 after a preliminary hearing.

We previously reported that Guy was home at the time of the shooting, according to Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton.

The prosecutor said Guy, who found his son wounded, told authorities that the toddler shot himself with an airsoft gun.

The boy was pronounced dead at the hospital.

We’ve reached out to prosecutors and Guy’s lawyer for comment.

Further details about why the judge dismissed the charges were not immediately available.
