The Shore Conference Championships, the annual meeting of Ocean and Monmouth County’s best, brought fireworks once again Thursday to Ocean County Park in Lakewood, New Jersey

After the No. 2 ranked Christian Brothers Academy university in the United States sat out the Monmouth County Championships, they were more than ready to get back out there and put on a historic performance at Ocean County Park.

Joe Barrett led the way with a blistering individual time of 14:36 minutes, beating the course record by five seconds and driving the entire front of the field through the finish line at a blistering pace.

In idyllic weather, in front of a loud crowd and on a fast route, four boys crossed the finish line in less than 15 minutes.

This is the second Shore Conference cross country title for Barrett, who won as a sophomore in 2021 and rested during the 2022 meet. His time broke the previous course record of 14:41, held since 2021 by Jackson Barna of Ridge HS.

This is the first two-time CBA individual champion in the Shore Conference since Mike Mazzaccaro in the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

However, the record didn’t end there.

Barrett’s teammates, one through seven, all finished in the top 10 individually, and her top-five average of 15:01 also broke the course record team average of 15:03 that CBA had set since the 2013 Shore Conference Championships.

This is their 17th consecutive Shore Conference title since 2007 and their 40th overall. Second was Colts Neck with 80 points and third was Manalapan with 98.
