Columbia man found guilty in 2023 mobile home shooting | Mid-Missouri News

A Columbia man has been convicted of two felonies in connection with a January 2023 shooting at a mobile home in the 1800 block of West Business Loop 70.

A Boone County jury found Sean Colton, 23, of Columbia, guilty Wednesday of first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

According to previous KOMU 8 reports, Colton was originally charged with first-degree domestic violence, unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action.

According to court documents, officers at the scene found a male victim with two gunshot wounds to the upper right back.

The victim told police that she lived with Colton and that the two got into a verbal argument in the trailer house, court documents said. The victim said he left the house to get into his vehicle when Colton came outside and fired a gun into the air several times. The victim said he ran away and Colton then allegedly shot him in the back.

Colton admitted to police that he fired his gun into the air, court documents say. He allegedly told police he was “letting bullets fly” to scare the victim away and that he had no intention of shooting him.

An officer asked Colton if he was curious how the victim was doing, and he allegedly replied, “I honestly hated the guy,” court documents say.
