Barcelona’s Dani Olmo: “El Clásico is the best game in Europe”

Dani Olmo will take part in El Clásico for the first time in his senior career this weekend. The FC Barcelona signing has played against Real Madrid as a member of RB Leipzig, but this is the first time he has done so for the Catalans.

In a television interview, Olmo said: “In a game like this there are no favorites.”

Barcelona are currently three points ahead of Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu. It’s still early days but there is already talk of what the duel at the top of the table could mean for the title race.

A Real Madrid win would put them in pole position to win the league, at least for now. However, a win for the Olmo team would put them in the lead by a sizeable six points.

“It is the best game that can be played in La Liga and in Europe. We can beat them with our ideas and we want to prove that,” Olmo said.

Olmo has a record of one win, one draw and one loss against Real Madrid when he played for his previous club.

He appeared in three league games for the Catalans after being signed from Leipzig in the summer. Olmo comes from FC Barcelona’s academy and has long been linked with a move back to Catalonia. His exploits in helping Spain win the UEFA European Championship helped ensure Barça were prepared to make a big bid to ensure he returned home.

After missing the last few weeks due to injury, Olmo was back in action in Barcelona’s 4-1 win against FC Bayern Munich.
