The Sheriff’s Office provides an update on the Moose Creek homicide investigation

The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office said in an update Thursday that multiple leads are being investigated in the murder case of Dustin Kjersem, who was found dead in the Moose Creek area on Oct. 12, 2024.

In a press release, the sheriff’s office provided an additional list of items the public should be on the lookout for:

  • Estwing camp axe, blue and silver, probably with a 26″ handle (see photo)
  • Remington 11-87 12ga shotgun, wooden stock
  • Ruger Blackhawk .44mag revolver, blued 4 5/8 inch barrel, wooden grips
  • Orange radiator from YETI – Tundra 45 (see photo)

The Sheriff’s Office said the items listed above are believed to have been removed from the scene.

At a news conference about the investigation last week, the sheriff’s office said investigators want to hear from anyone who:

  • Was in the Moose Creek area any time from Thursday evening, October 10th to Saturday morning, October 12th
  • Anyone who has trail cameras or trail cameras in the Moose Creek area, even if the footage seems irrelevant
  • Anyone with cameras in their cars traveling in the Moose Creek area during this time period
  • Anyone who has seen Kjersem’s truck in the area (see photo)
  • Anyone who has seen anything unusual or unusual around Moose Creek.

The Sheriff’s Office says anyone with information about the incident or the items listed above is asked to contact the GCSO Detectives Division at 406-582-2121 or via email at Detectives@gallatin.mt.gov turn around.

If the information is urgent, please contact the GCSO Department at 406-582-2100 and ask to speak to a deputy.
