FSU NAACP student calls university to investigate after student allegedly posts racist comment

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Florida State University’s NAACP chapter is calling for an investigation into the university for hate speech after a student allegedly posted a racist comment about black students on Snapchat on Wednesday.

The Florida State University Chapter of the NAACP condemned the post, writing in an official statement: “This type of rhetoric, disguised as casual language, is deeply damaging to the well-being of Black students at FSU.” It contributes to a hostile atmosphere students feel unsafe, unwelcome and devalued.”

You can find her entire statement at the end of this article.

FSU also released a statement on the incident, saying it condemns “all forms of racism and hatred, and it is particularly troubling when students express views that are reprehensible and inconsistent with our university’s values.”

FSU directed students who needed support to contact its Counseling and Psychological Services Department or Student Support and Transitions Department. The university’s full statement can be found below.

This article has been corrected because Florida State University cannot confirm whether the student is under investigation due to federal student privacy law.
