Person shot near San Jacinto High, prompting postponement of team’s football game – San Bernardino Sun

A San Jacinto High School student was shot and injured on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 24, prompting school district officials to postpone San Jacinto High School’s home football game scheduled for later that evening.

The shooting happened around 3:50 p.m. in the area of Tahquitz Street and Ramona Boulevard, said Sgt. Wenndy Brito-Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

“When officers arrived they found an injured man on the ground. The victim was alert and transported to a local hospital in unknown condition. Officials are currently investigating. There have been no arrests at this point,” Brito-Gonzalez said.

The sergeant could not provide a description of the shooter or the suspect’s car.

The shooting happened about a half-mile from San Jacinto High.

Carrie Best, a spokeswoman for the San Jacinto Unified School District, said in a message to parents that the victim was a student at San Jacinto High.

San Jacinto, 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the Mountain Pass League, was scheduled to host West Valley High of Hemet, which is 6-1 overall and 2-0 in league play at 7:30 p.m. The winner would clearly have at least a share of the championship. The game still had to be postponed, Best told the parents.
