Nevada corrects employee death under investigation following accident

The Nevada Department of Corrections is investigating the death of 38-year-old Miles Collins, an employee who died in a car accident because he was suspected of being impaired at work.

Collins was sent home instead of being placed on administrative leave and transported home, as required by department policy.

Documents obtained by News 3 show an internal investigation is underway. An anonymous insider who feared retaliation said: “I feel like if the director doesn’t take responsibility for his actions, it saves his job and he could go on and do what he wants to do, unlike an employee who where they could just say, Hey, we did that. We gave them this and it just shows that they acted instead of really taking responsibility for who did what.”

An autopsy report confirmed that Collins had drugs in his system, including methamphetamine and cocaine, and that he died of blunt force trauma.
