Friday night’s regular-season finale at DeHaven Stadium looks set to be a crowning moment for the host Millikan Rams as they look to complete the program’s second outright Moore League championship since 1957.

The last time Milikan was alone atop the Moore League was 1973, and with a win over Compton they can cap off one of the greatest seasons in school history. Since their loss to Downey, which dropped them to 1-2 on the year, the Rams have rattled off six straight victories and are hoping to make it seven in a row heading into the CIF-SS playoffs.

The offense wasn’t a problem for Millikan as they averaged 49.4 points per game and scored 45 or more points in all five league games. The Rams have proven they can run the ball against almost anyone, so adding some rhythm to the passing attack could be crucial in the postseason.

Millikan defeated Compton 56-7 last season and has won four straight meetings against Compton. The Tarbabes’ last win was a 48-42 triumph in 2019.

This season, Compton (3-5) is still looking for its first Moore League win after suffering a narrow loss to Jordan last Friday night at Cabrillo.

It’s a young roster that has added some key pieces throughout the year, including the arrival of sophomore Jay’Rome Norwood last week. The Mater Dei transfer is hard to miss as a linebacker and tight end and will likely be an important part of Compton’s game plan.

A Millikan victory would set a new benchmark for the Romeo Pellum era with eight wins, although Rams fans will certainly be hoping for more in the playoffs. With a week off to complete their schedule, Millikan would have more time to enjoy their historic success and make room for the Moore League Cup.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at DeHaven Stadium.
