The London Mavericks will play their first home game of the new-look Netball Super League (NSL) in Essex next year.

It is part of the sport’s attempt to reach new communities, grow the game in England and turn top teams into professionals.

The game will take place against NIC Leeds Rhinos at the Brentwood Center on March 23rd.

Tamsin Greenway, director of netball at the London Mavericks, said: “We have wanted this for so long. It was a really bold move from England Netball and the Super League last year. It’s a really exciting time for netball.”

The Mavericks will also play two NSL games at Wembley Arena, with further games taking place at the Hertfordshire Sports Village in Hatfield.

The NSL was reduced from 10 to eight teams for the 2025 season, with Team Bath, Strathclyde Sirens, Surrey Storm and Severn Stars eliminated and Birmingham Panthers and Nottingham Forest Netball added.

The restructuring was part of a 10-year plan to professionalize the league.

As part of the new-look NSL landscape, the eight competing teams have been allocated community regions, with the London Mavericks’ districts consisting of East Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, London and Middlesex.

“I’m so excited”

Netball players from St Martin’s School in Brentwood have been excited about the opportunities the restart of the sport can offer.

Year 10 student Bella said: “I’m so excited to find out they’re going to be playing locally and I can just go and watch professional netball.”

The Mavericks begin the NSL regular season with an away game at Cardiff Dragons on March 14th.

Fourteen more games were followed by a redesigned end-of-season format with a major and minor semi-final, followed by the preliminary final.

This season, fans will be able to watch one game per round of the NSL on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app.
