“The Substance” Comes Home for Halloween; Here’s how to watch it

Motherhood remains fertile ground for horror The Beldhamthe upcoming feature film debut of Angela Gülner. Ahead of the film’s premiere at the Austin Film Festival, a new haunting clip from the psychological horror film has arrived.

Patricia Heaton The film stars Sadie, an aging mother determined to protect the family from a monstrous presence that threatens to tear them all apart.

In The Beldham“Young mother Harper moves in with her own mother to renovate a run-down suburban farmhouse. The two are joined by her mother’s new boyfriend and a mysterious housekeeper, both of whom claim to have looked after Harper after her birth. But there is a sinister presence lurking in the house that is targeting Harper’s child. As Harper investigates, she uncovers dark truths about the nature of her reality and questions the intentions of those entrusted with her care.”

Writer/director Angela Gulner told Indiewire: “Over the last three years, I have watched my grandmother’s physical and mental health deteriorate. I watched my own mother sacrifice her physical and mental health by caring for her. And I felt the echoes of that grief resonate with me,” Gulner said. “The role reversal between parent and child that comes with age is frightening, sad and often debilitating. This story came about as I processed my grief. But more than that, from my processing of my love.”

The Beldham will screen at the Austin Film Festival on Friday, October 25th after premiering at the Sitges International Film Festival.
