Investigation into double fatal accident in California city underway: police

Two people died after their vehicle crashed into the side of a tractor-trailer in California City on Wednesday afternoon, the California City Police Department said.

At approximately 4:40 p.m., officers were called to the 9500 block of California City Boulevard for a report of an accident between a tractor-trailer and a small SUV.

When they arrived, they found a Subaru Outback strapped under the truck’s trailer. Cal City Fire Department and Hall Ambulance personnel confirmed two adults were dead upon arrival.

Through an investigation that included physical evidence and witness statements, it was determined that the tractor-trailer was backing into the Family Dollar parking lot on California City Boulevard to make deliveries when the driver of the Subaru, which was traveling westbound, struck the left side of the tractor-trailer, police said.

Officials said due to the severity of the crash, the California Highway Patrol was called to assist.

California City police do not currently believe drugs or alcohol were to blame for the accident.

The identities of the people are being kept secret so that their families can be notified, police said.

California city police are investigating.
