“It doesn’t surprise me that there were 12 fraudulent ballots.” Mesa County residents talk about voter fraud investigations

MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) – At least 12 ballots were caught with forged signatures in Mesa County.

Colorado voters can check their votes at any time at GoVoteColorado.gov.

David Weaver, a Palisade resident, said, “Well, the fact that they caught them, it seems like they’re doing a good job.”

“I’m glad they caught her. I hope they catch them all – if there are more,” commented Fred Erwin, a Grand Junction resident.

According to Colorado Secretary of State Jenna Griswold, Mesa County intercepted the fraudulent ballots on Tuesday through a signature verification process.

What alerted county election officials to the fraud was that two voters, when asked to correct their ballot signatures, responded by saying they had neither voted nor received their ballots. When the Mesa County elections office found out, it launched an investigation.

June Sampson, a Grand Junction resident, noted of their process, “It means they work hard. We need that, especially when some people might try to manipulate things.”

Mesa County election officials determined that the ballots came from areas close to each other and that some ballots were signed by the same person. The affected ballots reportedly came from mailboxes. They handed the investigation over to the public prosecutor’s office and alerted state officials on Wednesday morning.

Jenna Griswold explained the situation during a press conference: “Everyone affected will be offered a new ballot. The Mesa County Clerk will reach out to all affected voters. We want to make sure everyone’s voice is heard.”

The state has not provided any suspect information or specific details about the contents of the intercepted ballots.
