The bushfire was extinguished before nearby buildings were destroyed

ITHACA, NY – According to a news release early Thursday morning, the Ithaca Fire Department responded to an “uncontrolled brush fire spreading up a hill” Wednesday morning.

Lt. Robert Shepherd wrote in a news release that firefighters responded to the area of 272 Enfield Falls Road, where the brush fire was reported. When crews arrived, Shepherd said, the fire was observed creeping up the hillside and approaching a nearby building.

After about an hour, emergency services were able to bring the fire under control. Additional personnel were reported by Enfield and Newfield fire departments, off-duty Ithaca firefighters and a team from Bangs Ambulance. No injuries were reported.

Shepherd said damage from the fire was limited to the burning of about an acre of brush in the forest. Shepherd also wrote that the cause of the fire was likely unattended open burning.
